NSF Postdoctoral Associate, University of Nevada, Reno & Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida

Roles: Advisor, genetics & bioinformatics

Dr. Niyomi House is an evolutionary biologist who studies ectoparasites and their co-evolutionary relationships with the host. She primarily focuses on human head lice to infer evolutionary histories of humans. In addition, she studies the evolution of insecticide resistance in these lice to understand the genomic consequences of being exposed to insecticides. Her research is based on acquiring and processing big genomic datasets using sophisticated bioinformatic tools to answer population genetic questions. She also uses 2D and 3D morphological data of species to investigate the link between genotypes and phenotypes of parasite species. She is now an NSF postdoctoral fellow conducting her research at the University of Nevada, Reno, and at the Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida.
