Ari Gele

PhD candidate, University of Nevada, Reno (Dr. Lora Richards)

Roles: AI and imaging development

Ari is a Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he studies the role of floral chemical diversity in maintaining diverse and resilient pollinator communities. As the lead developer for Limelight: Rainforest's insect classification system, Ari has developed a computer vision system for the identification of insects from camera trap images in the field, a challenge in hyperdiverse tropical systems where the majority of insect species are still unknown to science. Ari additionally develops the data pipeline to pull biodiversity insights from these data, and studies the experimental and statistical designs necessary to gain the most meaning from large-scale automated camera traps.
