José Illanes is an experienced and passionate bird guide with over 20 years of professional experience. Originally from the Sani community in the Ecuadorian Amazon, he has dedicated his life to birdwatching, cultivating a deep knowledge of birds, and developed an immense passion for ornithology since he was thirteen years old. José has completed his training as a National Tourism Guide and has led tours to various corners of the world, with experience in countries such as Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Northeast India, Bhutan, Australia, and West Papua. In addition, he has explored birdlife in places as far away as South Africa and Thailand, expanding his understanding of the world of birds on a global scale. Recognized as one of the main ambassadors of Ecuadorian birdwatching, José has been sent on several occasions by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Tourism to the United Kingdom to promote birdwatching at the renowned Global Bird Fair. He has also played a leading role in promoting birdwatching in the United States, actively participating in this type of event on more than five occasions.
